Chennai: Pattali Makkal Katchi Top Ramadoss on Thursday demanded that the Tamil Nadu establish a committee led by officials with expertise in the management of water resources to monitor and suggest the state on the problem of reservoir Mekedatu.
Minister of Kartataka Baru Basavaraj Bommai was reportedly firm in implementing the Mekedatu reservoir project and the Tamil Nadu government should be vigilant and worked thus, said the founder of PMK Ramadoss.
If the dam is built in Mekedatu across the Cauvery river with a capacity of around 70 TMC (thousand million cubic feet), it will be the biggest facility largest in Karnataka and leads to increased official storage capacity combined with surrounding 185 TMC.
When additional storage 40 TMC is calculated, the cumulative capacity will jump to 225 TMC.
In such possibilities, “Tamil Nadu won’t even get a drop of Cauvery,” he said in a statement.
Karnataka claims that the proposed facilities are to meet the needs of drinking water from Bengaluru City but have drawn Cauvery for such requirements and the Supreme Court has also allowed it.
The central government permit for this project is sought by Karnataka just by quoting the need for drinking water because it is only “strategy,” its guess.
“Bengaluru’s annual drinking water requirements are only 4.75 TMC and are unfair to build a 70 TMC capacity dam for that purpose.
Continuously, this aspect must be impressed in the middle by the Tamil Nadu government.” There is an opportunity for “turning back” in the material material anytime and the Tamil Nadu government must remember this and work by alert.
Like Cauvery’s technical cells, which was established to give advice to the government about the problem of Cauvery River water, the Tamil Nadu government must establish a committee for Mekdeatu.
The panel must be led by officials with expertise in the management of water resources to be referee monitoring the problem of reservoir Mekedatu and giving advice to the Tamil Nadu government.
“The government must take steps to immediately do this.” PMK leaders also asked the government to appoint a secretary for the newly created water resources department.
