Colombo: President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Wednesday gave a one-month deadline to the country’s anti-graft commission to investigate those accused of maintaining offshore accounts in unprecedented financial document leaks known as Pandora paper.
The opposition leader Sajith Premadasa told parliament that the revelation made in Pandora letters must be investigated and government members should not prevent impartial investigations.
“The President this morning asked the bribery and corruption commission to investigate all Sri Lanka mentioned in Pandora’s letters and their transactions and report to him in a month,” said Presidential Spokesman Rajapaksa Rathnayake.
The move occurred a day after the opposition raised the problem in parliament after Rajapaksa’s nephew Nirupama Rajapaksa and her husband Thirukkar Nadesan said Pandora letters.
The government rejected them and claimed that the couple did not have political relations with the current SSPP coalition and all the transactions mentioned in Pandora’s paper were carried out before the government office that assumed SLPP.
The International Consortium of Journalists Investigation (ICIJ) this month claimed it was gifts more than 11.9 million secret files to find a very rich secret financial transaction.
More than 600 journalists from all over the world, belonging to 150 media organizations included 117 countries, participating in research for two years for Pandora paper, which contained 11.9 million files containing confidential information of 2.94 Terabytes.
Leaks revealed financial secrets more leaders and public officials than Panama Papers and reportedly provided information more than doubled about the ownership of offshore companies.
Pandora’s paper investigation is greater in size and revelation about politicians and public officials is also far more than what previously becomes a public concern.
