Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping has promoted Xu Qiling, Commander of Western People’s Forge Western Theater command that oversees the border with India, to the rank of General, in the midst of a sustainable deadlock along the actual control line (LAC) in East Ladakh.
XI, who is also the chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) – PLA high commando overall, promotes XU 58 years old to the highest rank – the highest ranking for officers in active services in China.
Other officers promoted to the rank of Commander General including the command South Theater Wang Xiubin, PLA Liu Zhenli’s army commander, and the PLA Strategic Support Commander (Missile) Force Ju Qiansheng, report the Xinhua news agency.
XI presented the order certificate signed to them at a ceremony held by CMC in Beijing on Monday.
Xu, who held the rank of Lieutenant General before, was appointed to overcome the command of Western Theater in June last year.
Xinhua in his report was called Xu as the Western Theater Command Commander PLA.
Regarded as a rising star in PLA, Xu was one of the young generals promoted by XI after he took PLA shoots at the end of 2012.
India and China were locked in a military deadlock at several friction points in East Ladakh since early May last year.
However, both parties completed the withdrawal of troops and weapons from the North and South Bank of Lake Pangong in February after a series of military and diplomatic talks.
Both parties are now involved in the conversation to extend the release process to the remaining friction point.
India has been very urgent to release troops in hot water sources, gorry and depsang.
According to military officials, each party currently has around 50,000 to 60,000 soldiers along the LAC in a sensitive high altitude sector.
There was no advanced movement seen in the release of troops at the remaining friction point because the Chinese did not show flexibility in their approach to this issue in the 11th round of military talks.
On June 25, India and China held a virtual meeting of work mechanisms for consultation and coordination (WMCC) on border affairs where they agreed to hold the next military talks on the initial date to achieve complete release goals in Indonesia the remaining friction points in the East Ladakh , Both parties have a “Frank exchange” and decide to maintain a dialogue to achieve a shared solution to withdraw troops at all friction points to enable progress in the whole bond, according to a statement by the Ministry of External (MEA) in New Delhi.
