Pressure Force ‘Saffron’ Hijab Curb in K’taka College

Chikkamagaluru: A campus in Chikkamagaluru Regency in Karnataka on Monday asked Muslim girls wearing a headscarf to take it off once they entered the classroom, it seemed under pressure from another group of students who came to campus wearing a turmeric scarf to demand a saffron dress code.
Classroom restrictions, girls can wear their headscarves elsewhere in the campus place, the College title in Baagadi in Koppa Taluk clarifying.
It was a second time in two years that part of the students had protested Muslim girl students were allowed to attend the hijab class.
Last year, these students have asked for college authorities to start disciplinary actions against students who violate the dress code.
The problem began on Monday when the protesters appeared in a scarf and turmeric veil.
Some staff members complained to the Principal Ananth S about it, but the group would not try until female students wearing a headscarf told to do the same.
Principal Anant told the Toi that wearing a scarf did not number violations of college-dressed code.
“That (scarf problem) is discussed during the meeting of parents and we suggest students thus,” he said.
The principal said the trimmed problem would be resolved soon.
The police did not submit a case on the incident on campus, by saying responsibility for college management to handle it appropriately.
