ROME: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday invited more investment from Spain in Indian infrastructure projects when he met with Spanish colleagues Pedro Sanchez on the sidelines of the G20 KTT here and exchanged views on shared and global problems, including The situation in Afghanistan and Indo-Pacific.
Modi, which was here at the invitation of his Italian colleague Mario Draghi to attend the G20 Summit, accompanied by the National Security Adviser Ajit Minister Doval and abroad S Jaishankar during his meeting with Sanchez.
Both leaders welcomed bilateral trade fighting and growing investments including the signing of the recent contract to get 56 C295 aircraft from Airbus Spain, 40 of which will be ‘made in India’ in collaboration with the substitution system, the foreign ministry said in a press release.
Both leaders agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in new fields such as e-mobility, clean technology, sophisticated material and deep sea exploration.
Modi’s Prime Minister invited Spain to invest in various sectors including green hydrogen, infrastructure and defense making and further utilizing the Indian national infrastructure pipeline, the plan to monetize the asset and plan Gati Shakti, said the release.
Both leaders discussed india-European relations and also cooperation on climate action and priority in the upcoming COP26 summit at Glasgow.
They also exchanged views on regional and global problems about shared interest including Afghanistan and Indo-Pacific, he said.
India has voiced concern over the situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban seized power in Kabul in August.
India has underlined the need for Afghanistan regions not to be used to threaten or attack any country or to protect or train terrorists, or to plan or finance a terrorist attack.
India, the US and some other world powers have talked about the need to ensure indo-Pacific is free and develop in the background of China’s increasing military maneuvers in resource-rich areas.
Modi also said he was looking forward to welcoming Sanchez Prime Minister in India next year.
Previously, the Prime Minister’s office tweeted that the two leaders had beneficial talks on ways to deepen the relationship between India and Spain.
“The two countries work together in fields such as trade, energy, innovation and more,” he said.
Arindam Bagchi’s external affairs spokesman said that Modi’s Prime Minister invited Spain to invest in various sectors in India including green hydrogen, infrastructure and defense making.
On the sidelines of the G20 Summit, Modi’s Prime Minister interacts with several world leaders, including US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel minister, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and South Korean President Jae-in among others.
Italy has held a G20 presidency since December last year.
