Coimbatore: Food Security Officer has urged food business operators (FBO) in the district to print their license / registration numbers issued by the Food Security Department on bills and invoices starting from October 1 as mandated by the Indian Food Security Authority and India Standards (FSSAI) .
Officials said that the information would help consumers to raise complaints with the food security department if they were not happy with the quality of food served by FBO.
FSSAI number is available on packaged food.
The new mandate to carry a license number / registration on the bill will create pressure on the FBO to make themselves registered in the Food Security Department if it has not been registered.
The officers appointed for food security for Coimbatore District Dr K Tamilselvan said that food security officials would examine FBO starting from early October to see if the license / registration number was printed on the bill.
Legal notice will begin against those who have not printed details.

With the details of the license / registration available with customers, FBO will do their business more responsible, he added.
In the absence of a license or detail of registration, it will be difficult for customers to raise complaints against FBO.
FBO with an annual turnover of Rs 12 lakh and more must get a license by paying Rs 2,000 a year.
FBO with a turnover of less than what to register by paying Rs 100, officials said.
Tamil Selvan said that there were currently more than 8,000 fbo licensed and more than 23,000 registered FBOs operating in this district.
