Nagpur: Priority to an efficient thermal power plant in shipping coal power can save RS9,000 Crore every year for the country.
Also, reducing inefficient plants will also produce one-time savings from RS10,000 Crore because the pollution control retrofits are avoided.
This was revealed in the latest study of ‘Power Power Trilemma’ which was released by the Energy Council, Environment and Water (CEE) on Monday.
This finding is based on the 194 Gigawatt (GW) performance data from state coal assets for 30 months ahead of Pandemi Covid-19.
Highlighting that prioritizes efficient coal mills can provide a very necessary pause for public discounts, which reported the loss of RS61.360 Crore in 2019, this study added that efficiency-based shipments could increase coal fleet efficiency of 1.9%, producing annual coal savings 42 million tons (MT) and reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.
Ceen studies also recommend considering 30GW of Indian coal-based capacity for decomisioning acceleration.
“Growth in power demand that is slower than estimates and increasing competitiveness of renewable energy in India has left our coal assets underutilized.
While India reflects the year of zero commitment, the current plant is fully based on the addition of renewable energy.
Given that India will continue to rely on strength Coal in the coming decade, he must control the use of wasteful coal and improve generation efficiency.
Disabling parts of today’s fleet can make coal power plants more efficiently and less polluted, and accelerate decarbonization in the electricity sector, “said Karthik Ganesan, the lead author of the study and director Coewination of research in Ceep.
Another study, also released on Monday by the Ceep – Center for Energy Finance (CEF) examined 130 plants representing 95GW from state coal-based capacity.
“Comed with more than 25 years of coal assets (35GW total capacity) in priority can produce annual savings of RS7,550 Crore for the next five years,” said this research.
Stating that cost estimates are the first step that is important to deactivate, the lead author of the study and lead programs in CEF Vaibhav Pratap Singh said, “suitable mechanism must be designed to ensure a fair transition for all stakeholders such as coal mining and train.
Manage Equity payments, which contribute around 29 percent of deactivating costs, will also be critical.
This can help reduce the final transition costs and allocate more resources for labor payments.
“- Providing a factory priority efficient in coal shipping can save RS9,000 Crore every year – can provide great assistance to public discounts – releasing an inefficient factory can produce one-time savings from RS10,000 Crore – Disabling coal assets of more than 25 years can cause the annual savings of RS7,550 Crore for the next 5 years
