Paris: French pension reform is “absolute priority” and can be debated as part of the presidential campaign next year, but the government must now focus on the battle of Covid-19, Minister of Finance Bruno Le Maire said on Tuesday.
Reform Retirement is the central pillar of President Emmanuel Macron to create a more flexible and competitive labor market while also reducing the financial burden on the state treasury.
But only nine months from the election and with France face a new covid-19 wave that is potential because of the Delta variant, Le Maair shows on the radio of France and that landmark reform will be kicked on the road.
“Pension reform is an absolute priority,” said Le Maire.
“In politics, you must know how to do things step by step …
at the right time, but now is the time to fight a pandemic,” he said.
“…
it seems legitimate to me that on the subject involving our collective future, it’s part of the presidential campaign debate,” he said.
The initial proposal of Macron for retirement reforms humiliated trade unions and provoked weeks of protests and the transportation strike just before the Coronavirus Pandemi struck.
Macron delayed when he ordered France to lock a year and half a year ago.
