CALANGUTE: Port minister Michael Lobo said that he would oppose efforts to change the renovated Fort Aguada prison complex into ‘entertainment zone’.
Speaking with the media, he said that he had studied several proposals to provide a former center prison for private entities who want to turn it into a ‘wedding’ place.
“This is a historic place.
I will not allow commercialization.
It should not be given to several hotels.
I am against anyone who tries to open the entertainment zone in prison,” he said.
Lobo shows that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed interest in inaugurating the aguada prison that has been renovated at the cost of Rs 25 Crore through the scheme of ‘Swadesh Darshan’ the central government.
“It was the idea of ​​Minister of Manohar Parrikar to have a museum in a prison dedicated to the struggle for freedom and he had initiated the process to renovate the prison for it.
Prison Aguada is a historic monument.
Many freedom fighters have been imprisoned there during the Portuguese colonial government,” he said.
“Even Freedom fighters from India Britain were taken and imprisoned there because of the agreement with the Portuguese.

He said the prison spot was renovated by plans to turn it into a museum dedicated to the freedom movement.
