Coimbatore: A police attached to the armed reserve police placed under Penskorsan after a delay was detained in the Covid Ward from Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) fled on Saturday.
COP, which was identified as V Balaji, 29, the original population of the Cuddalore district, was suspended in November for ‘indecent behavior’ and had rejoined the assignment 13 days ago, said the source.
Balaji was deployed on duty at Ward Covid after the disposal of G Gajendran prisoners, 49, from Arispritialaya in Salem, was accepted there.
“Gajendran managed to escape from the ward when the police fell asleep on Saturday around 2am.
Balaji knew about the incident about 4.30 in the morning and warned senior officers.
Police personnel looking for escapee at the bus station and the train station in vain,” said A police officer.
After receiving a detailed report on the incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Police T V Muralidharan suspended Balaji on Saturday night.
The police competition course has formed two special teams for Nab Gajendran.
