Chennai: The Prison Department of Nadu Tamil has decided to allow visitors to meet prison inmates starting August 16.
The practice remained suspended since April 27 because of the second wave of Covid-19.
Visitors must be fully vaccinated or they must produce a negative certificate for the RT-PCR test taken within 72 hours.
The meeting period will be for 15 minutes.
Visitors must make an appointment through the E-Prisons visitor management system or by telephone at least the day before the planned visit.
People will be allowed to meet inmates between 9am and at 2pm at weekdays when there is no holiday exchanged, the release of the DGP (prison) Sunil Kumar Singh.
Visitors must use a mask.
They will be allowed to meet inmates after thermal screening.
