Coimbatore: Principal Principal in Annur was tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.
The principal has a symptom of Covid-19 and Abstain from going to school since Monday.
He has been treated in a private hospital for treatment.
The school was closed for classes from Tuesday afternoon and parents have been told that it will be reopened only after a puja holiday.
Meanwhile, the Department of School Education has decided to improve vaccination programs for parents of students from class IX to class XII.
Officials said vaccination was the only way ahead to protect school children and continue the school operating.
“Only about 40% of parents of school children have received at least one dose of vaccines in the district so far,” said an official from the Department of School Education.
Health department officials said that most students were tested positive for Covid-19 during random checks.
The possibility is high so students might have contracted the virus from their parents, they said.
While asking private schools to do vaccination camps for parents of students from their school, Chief Education Officer said the government principal was assigned to contact parents and insisted that they had to get a vaccine.
Although vaccination camps are carried out by government and private schools in the days before schools are reopened, most parents are still not vaccinated, he said.
“Private schools in Therkkupalayam recently conducted vaccination camps for parents.
While 300 vaccine doses are available, only around 50 parents appear.
There are still vaccine doubts between certain parts of the people,” he said.
Deputy Director of Health Services P Aruna said they planned to test more students in the coming days to detect the earliest case to prevent infection spread to students and other teachers.
“We have collected 1,500 samples from students after school reopened.
In the next phase, 24 health official teams will collect 2,000 samples from students randomly,” he said.
