WASHINGTON US Capitol Police said on Monday the internal investigation did not find fault by police officers who shot Ashli Babbitt, a supporter then President Donald Trump was killed during the siege of US Capitol on January 6 The news release determined the behavior of officers was “legitimate department policy and in the.” Officers, who have not been publicly identified, will not face internal discipline.
Babbitt, 35, was a US Air Force veteran which embraced the conspiracy theory far on social media, including a false statement of Trump that the 2020 presidential election loss was caused by fraud.
“The actions of officers in this case have the potential to save members and staff from serious injury and the possibility of death from a large crowd,” Capitol police said in the news release.
More than 570 people faced criminal charges related to the attack, which produced at least five deaths and temporarily sent parliamentarians into hiding when they tried to formalize President Joe Biden’s victory.
