Mumbai: BJP has lifted the red flag above the RS 1,600 Crore BMC desalination project in Mumbai.
The party has asked the UNI Ministry of Environment to conduct research and exit with reports on the environmental impact of plants in the coastline of Mumbai.
In a recent letter to the Minister of Environment Union Bhupendra Yadav, BJP Mla Ashish Shelar showed that the United Nations had reported the negative impact of desalination plants.
TimesviewMumbai has historically blessed with heavy rain.
Therefore, the decision to establish desalination plants to treat sea water is not only very expensive but also not environmentally friendly.
This plant also requires large amounts of energy.
BMC must actually encourage water conservation and promote rainwater harvesting projects.
“The United Nations has reported the negative impact of desalination plants on the nearest marine life and aquatic and ecosystems.
Unfortunately, the coastline of Mumbai and the closest aquatic ecosystem has been endangered and very polluted because it is repeatedly highlighted by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in various assessments and reports, “Shelar said in his letter.
“I urge the Ministry of Environment to assign reports and present their findings in the next two months to analyze the possibility of the environmental impact of desalination plant settings in Mumbai on the coastline and also evaluate and suggest alternative environmentally friendly for this project,” Shelar, MLA from Bandra (West), say in his letter.
The letter, with a request for a report in two months, came to schedule civilian civilians scheduled for February next year, with BJP pitted against Sena Shiv, who had ruled BMC for almost 30 years.
In June, the MoU was signed between BMC and the Israeli Water Technology Company to prepare detailed project reports (DPR) for desalination plant projects.
The Chairman of the Minister of Uddhav Thackeray, who was present at the event, has said that the 200 MLD project will be a “revolutionary step” and that it is his dream for several years.
If the plan passed, it would be the country’s first desalination plant, to be established in Manori to “increase the supply of water Mumbai”, even though it was a steep Bill Rs 1,600 Crore.
The aim is to make factory operations in 2025.
According to the MoU, signed with the Idea of Water Technologies, a global leader in the field, the DPR project must be prepared in May 2022.
The appointment of the company was released by the BMC fixed committee in May 2021.
BMC officials said That once worked on the preparation of the DPR was taken, different studies for projects, such as pairs, waves and currents, bathymetry surveys, and water quality analysis, and ecological studies & biodiversity will be pursued with enthusiasm.
Also to be chased is the preparation of the crz map and crz clearsage.
