New Delhi: The government on Tuesday issued a tender for the RS 50,000 Crore (nearly $ 7 billion) project which had long been delayed to build a conventional new generation of stealth submarines with foreign collaboration, as part of a long-term plan to fight the developing Chinese navy Attendance in the Indian Ocean (IOR) region.
The Ministry of Defense issued RFP (proposal request) to the Defense of the Shipyard Mazagon Docks (MDL) and private shipmaker Larsen & Toubro, which in turn will bind with one of the five selected foreign companies to submit a Techno-Commercial offer.
The program to build a mega diesel-electric submarine called `Project-75 India (P-75i) ‘.
Foreign ship builders are Naval Group-DCNS (France), Rosoboronexport (Russia), ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (Germany), Navantia (Spain) and Daewoo (South Korea).
The selection of the winner’s offer after the actual contract submission and ink is likely to last more than a year from now.
After that, it will take another seven years for the first submarine to be launched, with selected foreign companies providing technology transfer (TOT) for ship design, maintenance and production line settings in India.
Five other submarines will then launch one per year, according to the proposed timeline.
Hungry vessels will be armed with a total of 18 heavyweight cruise cruise missiles and heavyweight torpedoes and are equipped with air-independent air-based propulsion (AIP) for larger underwater durability.
Rajnath Singh’s defense acquisition council on June 4 has cleared decks for the P-75i, which will be the first project based on the policy of “strategic partnerships” which was announced in May 2017 to increase customary defense production.
Incidentally, none of the Defense Project six to seven “Make in India”, collectively worth more than the RS 3.5 Lakh Crore, actually began in the past seven years, as was first reported by TOI.
The P-75i was first given a way to return to ‘receipt of need’ in November 2007.
As a plan approved, India must have at least 18 conventional diesel-electric submarines, six submarines of nuclear-powered attacks (called SSNS) and four nuclear-powered submarines) And four are armed with nuclear-lined ballistic missiles (called SSBN).
But India is currently wrestling with a slinish thinning fighter arm at the time of the warship and Chinese submarines make regular robbery to Ior.
The Navy has 12 very old diesel-electric submarines, with only half of them operating at a certain time, and another is scheduled to retire this year.
The strength also shot three out of six French scorpene submarines built under the RS 23,000 Crore `Project-75 ‘took place at MDL.
In front of the nuclear submarine, India has a solitary SSBN in the form of INS Arihant, which is armed with a short distance ballistic missile and becomes fully operational at the end of 2018 to somewhat completing the ‘nuclear triad’ after a land-based missile and combat jet.
Second SSBN, INS Areighat, will be assigned this year.
At the same time, another project to build six SSNs was waiting with the cabinet committee about security for the last nod.
Construction of three out of six SSNs, each with a weight of more than 6,000 tons and costs around RS 15,000 Crore, is likely to be cleaned on the first go, as was first reported by TOI.
China, incidentally, already has the largest navy in the world with 350 warships, including 50 conventional nuclear submarines and 10, and plans to reach the level of strength 420 at the end of this decade.
Pakistan is also on the track to get eight yuan class diesel electric submarines with AIP, four type-054A multi-role frigate and other naval platforms and weapons from China dealing with more than $ 7 billion.
