PANAJI: The Chairman of the Minister of Pramod Sawant said on Monday said that the process of declaring a wild boar as VERMIN had begun.
“I have directed the Ministry of Forestry to speed up the process.
People face problems because of wild boar,” Sawant said, adding that only this species were considered for the vermin declaration.
At present, wild boar is protected under the wildlife law, making his illegal murder.
Because of the human-animal conflict and plant destruction over the past few years, farmers have been attractive to the government to declare certain wild animals, one wild boar.
They insisted that four animals from schedule 3 and 4 were reclassified to schedule 5.
Over the past few years, the opposition also has demanded wild boar and other animals that destroy plants.
Meanwhile, Sawant said that he had directed the Ministry of Forestry to accelerate the delayed case to complete the claims of forest rights.
He also said that tree cutting permits will be given online.
Sawant said that he continued to hold a review meeting (with the forest department official).
He said he discussed the progress of reform in the department and also recruitment status.
The minister’s chairman said that they had invited bidders to conduct surveys in forest areas to resolve claims, but only one institution showed interest.
“We must conduct a survey and complete public claims for forest rights,” he said.
Sawant also said that people can register online to find permission to plant trees for commercial use.
He also said that the state government had completed the granting of tree cutting licenses online, and it would be available soon.
