Chennai: Kamakoti Veezhinathan, a professor from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been appointed as the new Director of IIT Madras.
Professor Kamakoti led the research team who designed the first Indian ‘Shakti’ microprocessor that was originally developed which can be used in cellular computing devices and network systems.
This can reduce dependence on imported microprocessors in the communications and defense sectors.
An alumni of IIT Madras and an expert in artificial intelligence, he has been appointed as the Head of the AI Task Force by the Ministry of Trade Union and is also a member of the National Security Advisory Board.
He currently works as a Dean of Industrial Consultation and Sponsored Research (ICSR) in IIT Madras.
