Nagpur: City police feel complicated to handle crimes in the city because thugs are increasingly using the e-commerce portal to buy sharp weapons under the label ‘kitchen equipment’.
Known as a ‘Chinese’ weapon, this is popular among young people, it was studied.
In two years, there has been a sharp increase of 81% in weapons spasms, including a large number of weapons obtained online.
As of October 2019, 433 sharp weapons were confiscated by the police.
This year, 783 sharp weapons were confiscated until October.
During the recent research was conducted by the National Law University of Crime in Nagpur, a substantial increase in trends of injured cases and observed murders.
Despite traditional sources and smuggling weapons routes from Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh mostly remain unchanged, the modus operandi procurement of sharp weapons has seen sea changes with the availability of easy e-commerce materials.
Sharp weapons are delivered on the doorstep after being bought online.
CP Amitesh Kumar has been in December last year issued a notification under the criminal procedure code 144 prohibiting sales, purchases and delivering any weapons or weapons through an e-commerce portal that is not in accordance with the norms under the Indian weapons law.

“Together with them, strict actions will be taken against e-commerce portals also if the weapons used in crimes have been purchased and sent from their site, especially if it violates the specification of the Indian SMS Act,” he said.
As per Indian weapons law, any sharp weapon that exceeds nine inches and a two-inch wide will be categorized as illegal.
During the recent action, the city police have recovered nine sharp weapons purchased online.
CP said the e-commerce portal was recommended to refrain from violating instructions.
“The shopping portal is mostly dealing with kitchen utensils and sharp weapons many times packed as cream and vegetable knives.
We think of tying them legally,” he said.
He also said the branch of the crime and the police station had been directed to take a separate and together drive against illegal weapons, known criminals and use such weapons and gangs.
“All criminals in the notes have a violation to own or supply weapons and are known to have used it repeatedly checked and slapped with prevention,” the police said.
Sources in the police stated that several temples also had shops selling swords and small knives for religious purposes.
“Thugs many times misleading shop owners because they buy swords and knives by disguising them as members of the community,” said the source.
A community near Rani Durgawati Chowk produces sharp weapons ‘on orders’ and gives it in a few hours, fearing a police attack.
“The blacksmith mini factory in Mominpura also provides a sharp weapon if the order is done.
