Public sector work moves women to agricultural courses

Women have participated in agricultural-related work for centuries.
Now women learn technical skills to improve agricultural practice.
In accordance with the data of Rajya Sabha, Kerala has noticed the highest number of women who choose agricultural education compared to other states.
Binoo P Bonny, Head, Center for Gender Studies on Agriculture, Kerala Agricultural University (Kau), said, entering the undergraduate program offered by the University is based on the engineering medical exam (KOAM) conducted by the commissioner for the entrance to the exam (CEE) .
“This is an impressive female performance in examinations that help them enter agricultural education compared to their partners,” Bonny said.
In addition, he reasoned that most women preferred to have jobs near their hometowns.
“Having a degree in agricultural education can help them get a job as an agricultural officer at the Panchayat level,” Bonny said.
Apart from this, they also qualified to submit various PSU jobs related to agriculture including various commercial banks, he added.

Entrepreneurship vs.
Job.
Narendra Singh Rathore, Deputy Chancellor, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUat), Udaipur said that despite the more female candidates in different courses, entrepreneurship is the most preferred choice.
Rathore said that there are a number of reasons that cause low representation of women in entrepreneurship – including the community.
“Lack of family support and household responsibilities, as well as security issues keep women in the bay when it comes to choosing between work and entrepreneurship,” he said.
Central scheme
Quoting government initiatives, Rathore said that agro-based business promotion also requires experts in the field so that employment opportunities are expected to grow further.
The central government has implemented various schemes to promote agro-based work in this country.
The Ministry of Agriculture & Agriculture Welfare has introduced a new component called the component of innovation and Agri-Entrepreneurship under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana-Remunerative approach for the agriculture and rejuvenation of the sector sector (RKVY-RAFTAAR) with the aim of producing work by promoting startup on agriculture and sector allies .
Scholarship
To promote agricultural education and attract students in agricultural education, various national / international scholarships are provided to students at various levels by the Indian Agricultural Research Council (ICAR).
