PUDUCHERRY: The Union Puducherry region has witnessed a surge in Covid-19 cases in the last few days – the number of active cases that fell below 700 on August 28 touched 894 on Friday.
Territory reported 127 new cases even as 70 patients recovered on Friday.
From them, 718 patients were under isolation and home care.
Puducherry headquarters reported maximum new cases with 82, followed by Karaikan (29), Mahe (14) and Yanam (2).
The Puducherry head office also has the most active case with 551, Karaical Enclaves (200), MAHE (121) and Yanam (22).
The region did not report Covid-19 death on Friday and the fixed toll road 1,815.
Puducherry head office has a maximum fatality – 1,432.
Karikal Enclaves, Yanam and Mahe each reported 237, 105 and 41 deaths.
The fatal rate of infection in UT reaches 1.5%.
This region has so far reported 1.23 lakh cases, where 1.21 lakh patients have recovered registering the recovery rate of 97.8%.
Of the 6,307 samples tested on Friday, 2% was returned positively.
The health care authority has so far given 8.22 lakh doses of vaccines against Covid-19 (including second dose).
