San Juan: Governor Puerto Rico announced Thursday that he would ask public school students aged 12 years and over and everyone in the tourism and entertainment sector to get booster shots as a US region fighting in Covid-19 cases.
The deadline for getting a booster shot is February 15, said Governor Pedro Pierluisi, who also said he would put indoor capacity at 75% in all public and private places serving clients.
“We can’t let our slaughter down,” he said.
Pierluisi also extended the current restrictions for two weeks, including demanding the closure of most businesses from 12am to 5 in the morning and prohibiting the sales of alcohol at that time.
He recently postponed the opening of public schools for two weeks and requires those who work in the food, health and education sector to get their booster.
3.3 million islands have reported more than 900 who are currently hospitalized, the highest since the pandemic began, and the total cumulative more than 224,000 cases were confirmed and more than 3,400 deaths.
Puerto Rico has reported the leading level of the test below 5% late last year, but he jumped to 36% this month, a change official blamed the Omicron variant.
More than 70% of people in Puerto Rico have received their second vaccine dose, but only around 40% have received a booster.
The leap in a recent case pushed five of the 78 cities Puerto Rico for a while near the local government office, with only an emergency service operating.
