Pune: Police Bharati Vidyapeth on Saturday arrested 12 people on charges of holding an illegal oxen train race in Gujarwadi near Katraj and pushing the police who tried to prevent races.
The people who were arrested were from Gujarwadi, Kondhwa, Warje, Bhor, Raigad, Velhe, Urali Kanchan and other regions, police said.
The Bullock Cart Race was held at the foot of the hill located between Bopdev and Katraj Ghats at 9 am on Saturday.
Sub-Inspector of Nitin Shinde from Police Station Bharati Vidyapeth said, “The two main committee, Santosh Nanaware (44) from Kondhwa and Rahul Chaudhary (34) from Warje, were among the men who were arrested.
They did not bet on the race.
They did it as a passion and hobbies.
The man who was arrested, Pandharinath Jagan Phadke, (55), from Panvel, was a prominent name in the Bullock Cart Racing.
He uploaded a Bullock train race video on various social networking sites.
All men come from business families and are farmers.
” After receiving a call, Constable Police Ravindra Chippa and his colleague reached the place around 10:30 a.m.
The two police commanded the organizers to stop the race but they did not pay attention to them.
Even though it’s a warning, they justify the bond train away from the place.
“They have made a small racing line,” Shinde said.
The people arrested then began to argue with the police and pushed Chippa away.
Police said about 60 to 70 people had gathered in that place.
The police said the people tortured bulls during the race.
The police said that men gathered in large quantities in place to see the race against the command Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) prevented the meeting of people under Covid infection.
Gujarwadi-Nimbalkarwadi Village recently joined the PMC limit.
