Pune: More than 30% of vehicles 15 years or more are not registered with Pune, said regional transportation officials.
Notes managed by Pune RTO revealed that around 68,100 non-transportation vehicles in Pune were more than 20 years and 16,200 other transportation vehicles were close to 20 years.
“There are many non-transport or private vehicles aged more than 20 years in Pune.
Our calculations show that around 30% of vehicles (both personal and commercial) are still re-registered.
The reason can be a lot, including the fact that many of these vehicles might have been sold As a memo or discarded.
Every day, around 100 vehicles come to the RTO office for re-registration.
With the current scrappage policy, vehicle owners choose to go to take pictures rather than re-register for SOP and benefits, “said an RTO official told toi.
The recent center announced a new scrappage policy, which will begin to apply from April 2023 for commercial vehicles and from June 2024 for private vehicles.
“We have not received directions from the Department of Transportation until now.
At present, we do not have many ideas about how the system will work and whether the government will officially appoint vendors to lock.
However, the fact that commercial vehicle owners are now possible to hold on their old vehicles than Immediately throw it away is a possibility, “said the official.
In March, the State Transportation Department said that there were around 16 lakh vehicles, which could be removed.
The state transportation department has requested the Pune RTO office recently to see around 11 lakh vehicles, which might run without registration after 15 years.
This was revealed after the vehicle registration number in Pune, which was around 41lakh, did not match the figure of around 30lakh on the Parifahan portal from the Ministry of Road and Transportation.
