Pimpri Chinchwad: Permanent Committee of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Thursday approved the RS 178 Crore for the installation of more than 3,000 CCTV cameras.
PCMC Executive Engineer Thomas Noronha said that twin cities have 2,500-3,000 CCTV cameras in various important chowks, government and private offices, public parks and hospitals.
2,093 Additional CCTV cameras will be installed in the coming days under the Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City project.
Along with this, the approval of the RS 178 Crore from the committee stands will ensure that around 640 important chowks in twin cities will be covered with 3,000 such supervision units.
The move came in the midst of an increase in criminal activities in the area without CCTV cameras in recent months.
“After careful inspections by civil engineers and the police department, the priority list has been completed, where 640 Chowks will get a cover of supervision.
Of the total eight zones, each of the 80 important chowks has been completed for CCTV coverage,” said Noronha.
