Pune: Like work from home, online transactions and transactions take deeper roots in a system that is driven by a pandemic, the number of vishings and calls by a doubtful caller has increased significantly in the city.
Cyber Pune police have recorded 312 complaint applications this year, so far, related to the call as the 54 complaints they have received in 2020.
Vishing is often described as a verbal form of phishing attacks, carried out by criminals online.
Verbal criminals deceive people to do the things they believe in their best interests.
“People at home and spend more time on their computers and laptops, explore e-commerce sites, business, insurance, dating and friendship, among others, people finally finally fill out online forms and then they start receiving unwanted calls from People who pose as a company representative or call center, “said Police Inspector Cyber Pune.
“Some of these calls involve cyberstalking elements or temporary abuse of some others intended to cheat victims of money,” he said.
Officers say that most often, callers use servers, based abroad, to route their calls to victims to ensure that they are not easily traced.
In some cases, callers use their personal telephones.
The police usually act on complaints to track callers and act against them in cases where crime is involved, he said.
“The suspects usually claim to be a company representative, insurance companies, NGOs or government offices and notify their victims to pay insurance or some business partnerships or to pay a little lottery to get a free tour or vacation in foreign destinations,” Hake said.
“Some pretend to be NGOs and ask for donations.
In the case of the majority, the suspect uses internet call services, diverted from many servers located in various countries,” Hake added.
“It’s very difficult to track callers, which route calls from different servers to reach the complainant,” he added.
“Even though none of them submitted their complaint requests for each financial loss, but these calls have taken the peace of their mind,” he said, adding, “but the main intention of the caller was to get money from the victims.” He said that most victims of annoying or annoying calls were business people from Pune City.
“They clicked on several business websites to explore new business roads or partnerships, but they finally shared their telephone numbers and other details with fraudsters.
They then received a call from the suspect,” he said.
“The suspects have thrown a violation of the victims or have issued a threat to the victims after they refused to pay them money,” the officer added.
“Second, women and women have received an annoying call from an unknown telephone number.
The suspects get their telephone numbers and other details about dating sites or friendships and make vulgar calls to them.
We have identified several callers, which come from Various parts of India, “he said.
“Some victims even blocked suspicious numbers on their cellphones, but the suspects called them from a different telephone number,” the officer added.
