Pune: 50% Drop in Death in Train Track since last year

Pune: The decline in the number of trains that operates since the start of Pandemi in March 2020 has had a positive side effect – the annual number of deaths in the railway line in the Pune train division has more than two.
In accordance with the data issued by the Government of Government Railway (GRP), Division Pune registered 250 deaths in the railway line in 2020 and 205 to August this year.
In comparison, there were 519 deaths throughout 2019.
Pune train division consisted of Pune, Ahmednagar, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur.
“Death is mostly because people fall or jump in front of the train that moves, or accidentally come down them.
In many cases, the body is very damaged so it becomes difficult to identify the deceased,” Kavita Nerkar, additional supervisor (GRP), say.
A senior senior railroad official associated a decrease in the number of deaths – by 2020 and so far in 2021 – to limiting locking and a consequent decrease in the number of trains operating.
About 200 trains will run from Pune Station in the pre-pandemic period, the official said, added, “At present, around 100 trains from Pune Station.” Nerkar explained that people will sometimes sit on the threshold of the coach’s door and fall accidentally.
He further said the example of the person who ended their lives by jumping in front of a fast train in Pune when compared to other districts.
“In such cases, we record a motormen statement to ensure how suicide or accidents have occurred,” he said.
“In the rural part, many people walk across the railroad track to achieve their goals and get hit by a train.
Such accidents are reduced in the past two years,” Nlerkar added.
He said the body identification was the main problem in many cases, the body was very severe.
“Many victims do not carry ID cards or cellphones with them.
We keep the remains in the corpse for three days if their relatives approach the police, but rarely do this,” explained Nerkar.
He said the police also kept the deceased’s items at the police station.
“We also circulate photos (if any) and other details of the deceased with other police units in the state to ensure their identity,” Nlerkar said.
