Pune: Police Bharati Vidyapeth on Saturday holds two men and looks for their six feet to kidnap and robbing goldsmiths of Rs 20 lakh and 300 grams of gold ornaments, collectively worth Rs 32lakh, with income tax officials (IT) Thursday afternoon.
The Goldsmith (42), a resident of Katraj, approached the police on Friday.
A team led by Senior Police Inspector Jagannath Kalasashar from Bharati Vidyapeth tracked the duo after a tip-off.
According to the police, the goldsmiths currently made gold ornaments at his residence and received orders from individuals and shop owners.
“He is looking for a shop in the Katraj area to start his business.
He has saved around RS20LAKH to buy a shop,” said a senior officer.
“The suspects collected information about goldsmiths and decided to seize him with the guise of income tax officers,” the officer said.
“On Thursday afternoon, the suspects went to his house in the SUV.
They notified the goldsmiths that they were officials and had permission to find their homes,” police said.
“The suspects were looking for their homes and found cash in RS 20 lakh and 300 grams of gold ornaments (worth around Rs 12 lakh).
The suspect then packed cash and gold ornaments in the bag and asked the goldsmith to come with them for further investigation,” Police said.
“They took him to an isolated place near Katraj and dropped him there late at night without investigating,” police said.
“On Friday morning, the goldsmith had an investigation with several people and realized that the suspects had robbed him with his guise.
He then approached the police,” the officer said.
