Pune: Activist De-Addiction Awachat Dies at 77

Pune: Doctor, Author, and Activist De-Addiction Anil Awachat died early on Thursday at his home in Pune.
He was 77 years old.
He is the founder of the muktan rehabilitation center here.
His family and his colleagues said that Awachat had been sick after falling and the next operation in January and was banished to be treated at home in Patrakar Nagar, from Jalan Senapati Bapat.
Awachat survived by his son Mukta Puntambekar and Yashoda Wakankar.
Awachat Anita’s wife, also a doctor, died in 1997, after fighting cancer.
Anil and Anita are one of the founders of the muktangan, who also received support from various parts of civil society, including Marathi PL Deshpande’s cultural icon, which contributed funds to establish a center in 1986.
He also contributed a set of books for the muktangan library.
Mukta is the current muktangan director, which continues to work in the field of de-addiction in all groups and types, including alcohol and drugs, and other newer addiction forms.
First started as part of a mental hospital in Jerwada, later developing its own facilities nearby, and now has a male and female ward and experts to help patients navigate their addiction.
Muktese websites also have resources for those who might want to find help for themselves or someone they know, including the definition of addiction, effect, and handle social misunderstandings and stigma attached to people diagnosed with addiction.
In addition to its contribution with literature and journalism, Awachat is also known for its rationalist and socialist tendencies, and often provides support to organizations such as Hamal Panchayat, as well as movements such as naamantar agitation and the welfare of Bidi workers, among others.
He was also known for his support for the anti-superstitious movement in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti, was founded by the end of Narendra Dabholkar, paying tribute to Awachat on social media on Thursday, recognizing his support for the organization.
The price also poured from political leaders, including the Deputy Chair of State Minister Ajit Pawar.
“Dr.
Awachat is a multi-faceted personality.
He constantly views sensitive topics in the community.
He also participated in the social welfare movement, and the muktangan has helped thousands of people to get rid of their addiction,” pawar tweeted.
