Pune: The biodiversity park project in Bukit Taljai has been opposed by several local residents and a group of citizens.
Activists have formed a group called ‘Taljai Bachav Abhiyan’ and has planned a signature campaign on Sundays to increase environmental concerns.
The project announcement has led to controversy two years ago but now, the problem that reappeared after a detailed project report was submitted to the fixed committee for approval.
Group members held a meeting on Thursday to plan future actions.
“We do not support this project because it will cause environmental hazards.
Soil erosion will occur and the problem of refilling groundwater proven,” said Kulkarni, an environmentalist.
The project will inhibit natural and ecological habitats, he said.
“This project will cause infrastructure problems.
There will be traffic congestion because the area is already dense,” said Amit Sathe, a regional resident.
These hills are city lungs and must be preserved, he added.
