Pune: The State Public Works Department (PWD), in connection with various legacy experts, has started the construction of ‘Sabhamandap’ with a capacity of 1,000 seating in Bhimashankar Temple in Khed, about 110 km from the city.
Mandap will be made from Basalt Stone and Lime and built with traditional construction techniques, such as it’s from the main temple.
The “Mandap” was built in 1967 and can accommodate 500 people.
But now has some leaks because of rainfall.
Kiran Kalamdani, architect who has designed mandap, said that since new construction needs to be synchronized symmetrically with the center of ‘Gabhara’ (Sanctum Sanctorum), the room is available on both sides that allow enough space for the crowd to pass.
“As long as Maha Shivaratri, when the temple gets maximum visitors, the queue setting is done with a removable barricade.
It can be placed in a new cloister and will immediately lead to the mandap.
Alas and levels will be maintained to fit the existing level.
There will be a minimum barrier, “He added.
ER Patil, PWD Executive Engineer, said, “Considering current work status, it can be completed in the next two years.
The total project cost is RS148 Crore.”
