Pune Civic Body to look for more water as consumption above

Pune: The Civic body will look for additional water from the State Irrigation Department on the grounds that the merger of 23 villages and convenience in the limit of Covid-19 has caused an increase in consumption.
Pune Municipal Corporation has requested a total of 18.58 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) water per year to meet the increasing population needs in its jurisdiction.
Citizenship officials said the floating population had increased after restrictions were removed, and that business needs and commercial companies have increased because they have begun to function at full capacity.
“We have raised demand for more water in the past but do not get it.
Administration will re-urge the department of irrigation for additional water, because consumption has increased,” said Aniruddha Pawaskar, Head of the PMC Water Supply Department.
He said PMC would send a letter in this case with the irrigation department.
“The merger process has been done; the population has increased and has requests,” he said.
“Consumption has come down during locking.
Many residents and students have gone to their original places because of the closure of offices and educational institutions,” said a senior PMC official.
Now he says the majority of these populations have returned, adding demand.
“Nearly 1 to 2 TMC more water is likely to be consumed in civilian regions, including in the villages joining.
This demand must be considered, and more water must be given to PMC,” the official said.
“PMC must ensure that he plans a water supply.
The distribution network must be strengthened so that water loss can be reduced.
Water supplied to PMC from the Khadakwasla Dam must be used wisely,” said a senior official from the State Irrigation Department.
