Pune: A cybercrook who poses as a customer service executive from the public sector bank allegedly deceiving an engineer Rs 1.67 lakh under the pretext of increasing the last credit card limit in February this year.
The 33-year-old engineer based in Moshi, who worked with private companies, submitted a report of the first information (FIR) with Bhosari MIDC police on Wednesday.
Pradip Patil Inspector from Police Bhosari MIDC told TII that the complainant had obtained a public sector bank credit card with a credit limit of Rs 1 Lakh in February.
“After the card was sent to him, the complainant received a call from a man, who introduced himself as an executive of customer service from the bank.
He told the complainant that the bank wanted to increase the credit limit to 3.5 lakh,” said Patil.
Patil said after the complainant agreed to increase the credit limit, the man sent a one-time password (OTP) on his cellphone.
“After that the complainant received a message stating that the purchase of Rs 1.67 Lakh was done by using a credit card through three transactions,” said Patil.
He said the engineer claimed that he did not share OTP with that person.
Even though his credit card is misused.
“We obtain details of transactions made using a complainant credit card,” Patil said.
