Pune: Police Wakad on Saturday arrested a 28-year-old man on charges of deceiving an e-commerce company of Rs9.34 Lakh.
The suspect has ordered branded earphones and Bluetooth headsets from the company by making 20 user identities and then returns the duplicate or the first copy of the gadget.
“We suspect the involvement of several shipping people in fraud.
The court has revived the suspect in police custody until October 28,” Assistant Inspector Abhijit Jadhav from the Wakad police said.
In the first week of October, e-commerce companies have announced large discounted sales.
Jadhav said that the suspect, who came from Raisen Regency in Madhya Pradesh, came to Pune during that period, only to commit fraud.
Fraud has created a fake user ID and ordered the product to where he lives in Dange Chowk.
Fraudsters will then package it back the product with the first duplicate or copy and restore it to the company.
Kulla Kate, the company’s transportation partner manager, filed a complaint with the Wakad police station on Saturday.
“The fraud turned on the recent light, when company officials e-commerce found duplicate headphones and earphones in parcel returned by customers from the Wakad and Thergaon regions,” Kate said further.
He said that the company’s investigative consultant found that more than 20 customers had returned 60 earphones and Bluetooth headsets.
“The value of this gadget is worth RS9.34 lakh, but the company has received duplicate instead of the original gadget,” Kate said.
Assistant Inspector Jadhav said that after receiving the complaint, the police took suspiciously to detention from Dange Chowk in Thergaon.
“As long as the question is revealed that the suspect has created a different user’s login identity by using a different cellphone number,” Jadhav said.
He further added that the police had restored a pair of wireless earphones worth RS25,000 from the suspect.
