Pune: Traffic Police Increase Timing Traffic Signals on the Khadi Chowk Engine experimented for three days Saturday starting August 28 to facilitate congestion at a busy intersection after relaxation in Covid-19 restrictions.
Chowk provides a trip to a vehicle that leads to Bypass Katraj-Kahhwa, Katraj Chowk, Bapdeo Ghat, Saswad, Undri and Kohwa.
“Traffic assessments have revealed that trucks, containers, tankers and multi-axel plying vehicles between Katraj and undri have problems while riding a slope in Chowk,” said the Assistant Inspector Lekhaji Shinde from Khaban Traffic Police on Monday.
“We decided to conduct experiments based on experiments on Saturdays to increase signal timings to understand the traffic scenario.
We conducted our first experiment on August 28 and gave 90 and 45 seconds time for a plying vehicle between Katraj and undri, and Bapdeo Ghat and Khat between 9am and 11:00, “Shinde said.
He said the experiment would continue on the next two Saturdays.
“On the basis of our findings, we will receive a call to complete the signal timing,” Shinde said.
He said the traffic police have also initiated a proposal to shift the MSEDCL generator from Chowk.
Activist Kailash Kamthe said, “Traffic can be reduced if PMC takes a call to accelerate the process of land acquisition to expand bypass between Khadi and Katraj Chowks.”
