Pune: In a large increase of 15th place last year, Pune confirmed the fifth position among cities with more than 10 Lakh populations in the union government hygiene survey this year.
As a city company, with 1 Lakh-Plus population, Pune is ranked eighth.
Pimpri Chichwad is too improved its ranking, securing the 19th place this year due to 24 2020 in the 10 lakh-plus category.
This survey was conducted ‘Swachh Survekshan 2021’ by Union Minister of Housing and urban affairs.
Pune scored 4,900.94 points and also pocketed a sustainable big city award, while Pimpri Chinchwad scored 3.874.20 points.
A total of 48 cities were surveyed in the 10-40 population of the lakh population at various parameters, including feedback from citizens.

However, city-based citizens groups said that even though city rating had increased, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) faced the challenges of handling additional waste from 23 villages joining.
Vivek Velanankar from ALAG Nagrik Manch said, “The ranking must reflect on the surface of the ground.
