Pune: Leopard Attacks 2 people in Ambegaon & Junnar

Pune: Two people, including a woman, injured in a separate Leopard attack incident in Ambegaon and Junnar Tehsils, from Pune-Nashik Highway, in Pebrury Pune since Tuesday night.
Junnar Forest Division Officer said 12 Leopard attacks had been reported for the past eight months, showing a surge in the incident.
The activity of cutting sugar cane for the ongoing sugar cane destroyer has caused an increase in leopard movements looking for safer places from human residence.
These attacks are the result of this process, in addition to several local factors, officials said.
On Thursday, Shashikan Padwal (44) received an injury in his right hand and legs after he was attacked by leopards in Kalam Village at Ambegaon Tehsil.
Before this, on Tuesday night, a leopard chased a motorcycle and attacked a woman, Lata Kadam, who was riding a pilot in two-wheeled vehicles in Udapur Village in Junnar Tehsil.
Lata and her husband, Chandrashekhar, continued along the Ahmednagar-Kalyan highway when the incident occurred.
“The two injured are fine.
They have been dismissed from hospital after treatment.
In accordance with state policy, they will receive compensation between RS20,000 and RS1.2 Lakh, depending on injury,” Jayram Gowda said, Deputy Forest Conservator, Division Junnar Forest.
Gowda said, “We are looking for a view of experts to get a broader perspective on leopards who pursue people on the streets.

The maximum instance of chasing motorbikes takes place in the past four months.
That’s when the sugarcane cutter season starts,” said a senior forest official.
