Pune: A 45-year-old man was injured in Leopard’s attack on Tuesday morning at Gosavi Vasti in Hadapsar.
The injured man has been identified as Sambhaji Baban Atole, a resident of Gosavi Vasti.
Atole was on the morning road, with his friends, when around 6 am a leopard emerged from the nearby sugar cane field and attacked him.
“The animal, present in the nearest field, attacked Atole before him and his friends could react.
Leopard disappeared on the farm in a few seconds.
Atole received a minor injury in his right hand and legs,” said Mukesh Sanas, Pune).
Range Forest Officer.
“The injured person has been treated at the Sassoon General Hospital for treatment,” said Deputy Forest Conservator Division Pune Rahul Patil.
Patil said, “We will send proposals to the state government to regulate the trap cage in the area.
At present, our team will focus on awareness among people in the leopard.” The attack came a few days after the population from the Mohammedwadi area saw the leopard.
Forest officials said they did not find evidence to show the presence of animals there.
However, the authorities have increased their obligations and began to create awareness among people about how to deal with the situation.
“We suspect the animal might come from the Wagholi forest area where it was seen in the past.
This area has a large number of sugar cane fields,” Patil added.
Apart from the fear of Leopard in Mohammedwadi, the appearance of leopards in the suburbs has increased in recent months.
The animal was seen in villages near Hinjewadi Information Technology Park.
It was also seen in the Dighi area under Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation two months ago.
Forest officers have confirmed the presence of animals in hilly areas, Lavale, SUS, and the closest villages of Pune City in the past.
