Pune: By working in the priority part of the Metro Bridge in its last stage, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Mahametro) has shifted its focus to two depots, each of each coming in the College of Agriculture in Shivajinagar and Vanaz at PAUD Road.
Furthermore, Mahametro said he was developing an additional depot, in a concave hole, in Pimpri for the maintenance or repair of the Metro root.
Depot in Shivajinagar will serve the PimPRI-Swargate line, while those in Vanaz will take care of the Vanz-Ramwadi corridor.
The first development is 89% complete, while the Shivajinagar facility is more than 80% complete, Mahametro official said.
Both depots will handle daily maintenance, as well as small and main repairs.
This facility will also consist of a stable track used to park rakes.
Mahametro officials said all the main work on the depot was almost finished.
This includes the construction of engineering train units (ETU), a cleaning warehouse, an integrated workshop building, a wheel lathe, and auxiliary substation building.
Hemant Sonawan, General Manager (Public Relations) in Mahametro, said, “The two depots will play an important role in the smooth running of train operations.
This facility is an important part of the project, even though they are not a hub facing commuter.

The water used in the facility will be recycled and reused.

Previously, Mahametro said the same depot and existing infrastructure would serve rakes in the second phase of the project, which has the potential to expand the metro-city train network from 35km at 80 km.
Recently, the state government approved the study to kill expansion proposals.
Mahametro said he would prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for extensions, including up to Wagholi, Warje, Khadakwasla, Chandni Chowk and Hadapsar, and the new Hadadadan-Kharadi link, next year.
