Pune: Mucorikosis related covid or black mushroom cases may have dropped significantly, but a small amount of fresh infection continues to surface.
Last week, four new cases of covid mucorikosis were reported in Pune District.
In addition, 29 patients recovered in various hospitals, including Sassoon General Hospital, in this district.
With this, the total number of covid mukormycosis cases has reached 1,537 in the region in the last eight months.
From them, 1,284 had recovered and 224 died.
The most common factor to contract mucorikosis in restoring covid patients is a combination of uncontrolled diabetes and steroid use.
“Most of the new patients referred to Pune from neighboring districts such as Ahmednagar and Solapur.

Mucormycosis needs to be treated with antifungal drugs, while keeping blood sugar under control and eat a balanced diet is very important for early recovery, experts say.
