Pune: Even before Pune detected the first Covid-19 case in a husband-wife’s duo earlier last year, a resident of Palash Cooperative Housing Society at Wakad is ready-key.
In the second week of March, they have chosen vendors to provide important things like vegetables directly from agriculture to their society.
They even managed to get cash at their door through ‘mobile ATM’.
Chairman Kiran Vadgama said he was in Goa in February last year where he met several international tourists told him about restrictions implemented in their respective countries due to the spread of Covid-19.
“I realized that some sidewalks might be worn in India too.
So, the first thing we did was choose four vendors to provide fresh vegetables and fruits, among others from agriculture to the community,” he said.
Homemaker Rachana Raul said community members also maintained a close watch on events around the world.
“So, even before the Kuncian applied, we started storing backpacks and notifying our domestic helped do the same thing.
We paid them full salary for the locking period and also expanded monetary assistance for various organizations working for migrants.

The population follows the government guidelines and the entry of entering / exits from outsiders, unless they are involved in important services, during the locking months.

The community now has almost 100% of its population who fulfills the requirements of vaccinated with at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
And about 60% of its citizens have obtained both doses.
“All these steps and more help us keep Covid cases limited only 54 since the pandemic began in the city early last year,” Vadgama said, adding that community members have contributed 50 smartphones to domestic workers and others to ensure easy access to children’s online for children – their children.
Sambhu Ghasita, another resident, said, “We are always ready to help in whatever way possible in our capacity.
Every time a staff is sick or need, we help it without the second thought.” Swati Korde, an education and environment, said community members doing What every citizen does during the testing period.
“I also designed a special composter for covid affected residents so they could keep all their wet waste in it.
This ensures that household staff do not come into contact with those infected,” he said.
The community has many achievements under the belt, including a sustainable development model, which has won the best community award from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation several times.
