Pune: A 34-year-old man falls hooks, lines and sinkers for the fraud of Rs 25 lakh rs and finally loses money almost double the cheater.
In his despair to pocket the lottery, regarding the text message, the man broke his deceased deposit, his father’s deposit, borrowed money from relatives and made 30 bank transfers with a total RS46.35 lakh to15 in May and August before he realized he had been taken for a very expensive trip.
Police Bibvewadi said the victim, Indiranagar, worked as a deewanji (traditional account employee) with a leading vegetable trader on the market page.
He filed a complaint to the cyber and fir police registered on Wednesday.
Senior Inspector Sunil Zavare said the complainant received an SMS on May 22 claimed that the cellphone number was chosen for the Lakh RS22 lottery.
The man dialed the telephone number mentioned in the SMS.
“The suspect asked him to pay a different ‘tax and cost’ to get a lottery.
He finally paid Rs46.35 lakh between May and August,” Zavare said.
The complainants told Tii on Thursday, “I continued to make money transfers in the hope that the callers would fulfill their promises.
I want money as I thought it would make my life easier.” Zavare said, “said a petitioner, a retired police officer Police, died a few years ago.
He kept some deposits still, all of the complainants were broken.
He also borrowed money from friends and his family.
