Pune: Street crime, especially robbery, chain robbery and cellphone theft, is increasing.
City police have registered 143 robbors and 15 Dakoitas until June 25 this year.
For perspective, the police recorded 170 robbery and 10 dakoities throughout 2020.
“We have taken action against criminals involved in robbery under strict Maharashtra prevention of dangerous activities and Maharashtra controls from organized crime laws,” said Commissioner Polis, Amitabh Gupta, expressing confidence in the level of crime detection will increase reducing the number of street crimes.
While the tight lock in 2020 was related to the number of lower cases last year, this year’s figures were worried because most of the last few months were under strict sidewalks.
The police said they did everything to curb crime, while legal activists and experts believed in factors such as unemployment and economic pressure caused by a pandemic was on the root and called for a loving approach.
Many street crimes involved violators for the first time, pushing the police to look closer to the situation that caused their livision into the life of a crime.
“We are conducting a study of why such crimes, including those carried out by the first violators, are increasing and what can be done to curb them,” said Commissioner Gupta.
Rajas Men, Director of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, said there might be a relationship between the economic situation and increased crime.
“It is possible that people turn to street crimes after dealing with job cuts, unemployment, and other related reasons.
We can make certain conclusions after studying the profile of the perpetrators,” Parchure said.
Human Rights Activists and ASIM Sarode Lawyers also blame the situation arising from limits such as locking.
“Many don’t have money to buy smartphones and some snatch phones to meet their needs,” said Sarode.
He further said it was difficult to track telephone snatchers because most of the victims did not register police complaints.
“In some cases, the lower cellphone value may not be proposed.
Robbers take advantage of the practical problems faced by the police and humans,” he said.
Bharati Vidyapet Professor of College of Sukrut Deo agreed.
“There is a lot of frustration among people who mostly live in slums because of recession, unemployment and inflation.
Many domestic workers are not permitted to enter many housing communities.
They cannot face their frustration and it leads to aggression on the streets,” said Deo.
Anjali Pawar, Director of the Sakhee NGO, said the trend used small children – which could not be punished for adults – worrying.
“If nothing is done about them, these children will be criminals who harden when they grow older,” said the pawar further.
He said government assistance to those affected worst would be very helpful.
“There are many without income during a pandemic.
The government has provided financial assistance to drivers and sex workers Autorickshaw.
It must also help other parts of the poor.
Very disappointing to see young people begging and turning to crime because they have no choice others to get money, “he said.
“The branch of the crime and police station has broken 80% street crime in 2020 and 2021.
We have used CCTV cameras, technical investigations, emphasizing collection intelligence.
Most cases involve cellphone scatching, because it is easier to win and use the phone or sell it,” said Police Commissioner (crime) Ashok Morale.
