Pune: Athletic Stadium at the Southern Command Army Sports Institute (ASI) campus here will be named after the Tokyo Olympic Gold Medal of the Tokyo Neeraj Chopra in recognition of his historical achievement and to motivate the training of young athletes at the Institute.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will be the main guest for the naming ceremony to be held on August 23.
Army Chief of Staff General MM Naravane and Commander of the South Army Lt JS Nain Gen will attend the function.
This facility will be known as ‘Neeraj Chopra Army Sports Stadium, Pune Cantonment’.
“The stadium is an international standard where all athletes are trained every day.
We have improved recent facilities.
Because the stadium was not mentioned after a leading figure, we thought of calling it after Neeraj Chopra as his first gift for his first visit.
ASI after winning the Olympic gold medal , “said an Army officer.
Built and assigned in 2006, the stadium has a 400m synthetic path and sitting sitting for the audience.
Chopra, who is a junior officer assigned from the Indian army, has conducted a brief training of Javelin who threw at the early stages of his career in breast milk.
