Pune: Two months after the option was introduced to get a learner license from the comfort of a person’s home, around 1.11 Lakh candidates appeared for online tests until August 10, but 2.4 lakh chose to visit the regional transportation office (RTOS) to appear for the test.
“Most people don’t know about online options.
This facility must be advertised more.
Information about the portal ‘plupan’ is not enough, and more steps are needed,” said a department official.
Officials at Pune RTO said that while the number of people who came to take a reduced test, but had not stopped completely.
“One of its goals is to reduce the crowd at RTO during a pandemic.
Although it is difficult to provide pune-centric numbers, around 50% of people still visit RTO to give a test,” said an official.
The Department of Transportation officials said that Internet connectivity was also a big problem.
“In many cases, exam participants refused to link the aadhaar card to the test.
In such cases, candidates must take the exam by coming to the office.
Internet connectivity is also the main reason and many people from rural areas and suburbs have no choice but Come to RTO or camp for the test, “said the official.
