Pune: Police Kothrud has arrested a 24-year-old woman, along with seven others, on charges of selling her four-year-old son and then filed a fake kidnapping complaint with the police.
Seven men and other women included the couple, who had bought the child, and his neighbors, who had helped him in crime.
The police said the woman had sold the child for RS50,000 and a couple from the village near Panvel bought the boy from a middle person for RS1.60 lakh.
The police had saved and reunited the boy with his father.
The police have also taken cash from the middle.
“We arrested the boy’s mother (24) and neighbors (55) from Kothrud and a man (48) and his wife from Panvel, who had bought the child, on February 6 we also arrested a man (49) and his wife) and his wife ( 41) From a village near Panvel and another 62-year-old man at Maval Taluka.
These three people and neighbors of the boy have served as ‘middle man’ in crime, “Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III)) Pournima Gaikwad said.
The boy’s mother had approached the Kothrud police at 5 pm on February 4 and submitted a case against unidentified people who accused them of kidnapping her son around 2:00 p.m.
“We formed the nine team of police personnel from Kothrud, Warje and Uttamnagar.
While recreating the scene as he explained by the woman, we realized that his neighbor acted suspicion.
We decided to interrogate him to understand this case,” said Gaikwad.
The police team, led by Senior Inspector Mahendra Jagtap, Shankar Khatake and Sunil Jaitapurkar, made arrests from villages in Maval and Panvel.
