Chandigarh: Minister of Punjab Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reopen the Kartarpur corridor to allow people to visit historic temples in Pakistan.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Amarinder said the government would be happy to work together with the trade union government to ensure compliance with the right Covid-19 protocol, including testing and vaccination of pilgrims using the corridor.
The minister’s chairman showed that the movement of worshipers to Kartarpur through the corridor was suspended in March 2020 because of the Covid outbreak.
“The Covid-19 situation in Punjab has shown significant signs of an increase in the past month and I am happy to share it yesterday, there are no deaths related to Covid-19 reported, after almost a year,” he wrote.
Corridor Kartarpur joined Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan, the final resting place for the founder of Teacher Nanak Dev, to the Temple of Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur India.
