Rupnagar: a group of farmers on Saturday showed a black flag to the president of the new Punjab congress who was appointed by Navjot Singh Sidhu when he arrived at Rupnagar to pay respect for a gurdwara.
The protesters also raised the slogan to Sidhu for comments “Haus walk to the well” made during a speech at the installation ceremony at Chandigarh on Friday.
Sidhu clarified that his comments misunderstood and served in the wrong perspective.
The Congress leader said he had a high award for farmers and supported them with the heart and soul.
On Friday, Sidhu said, “I told the people of Morcha, the elders (farmers) who were thirsty walking to the well.
The well did not go to thirsty.
I am today inviting you (farmer).
I want to meet you.” Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi party took the exception with Sidhu’s comments and said it was “the smell of pride.” “It is very unfortunate that on the one hand, Navjot Sidhu announced to kill his ego and on the other hand, to support farmers, he also made the condition that thirst (farmer) must come to the well (Sidhu) because it did not go to the thirst,” said the President Farmer Farmer Wings AAP and MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan in a statement.
Sandhwan appealed to Sidhu that he must immediately apologize for his words as a farmer is “Annadatas” (food giver) of the state.
