Punjab Police ASI kills sister-in-law, injures brother

CHANDIGARH: A Punjab Police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was arrested for allegedly killing his 35-year-old sister-in-law and injuring her husband at their house in Ram Darbar on Tuesday night.
Har Sarup was deployed at the Punjab Police headquarters in Sector 9.
He was living with his family on the ground floor.
His brother Prem Sagar and his wife Divya with their two children stayed on the first floor.
Police said Sagar had been facing a water problem and had accused his brother of not allowing him to pump enough of it.
Both the brothers were not on talking terms and used to regularly fight over water.
On Tuesday night, the two again had heated arguments over switching on the water pump.
In a fit of anger, a drunk Har Sarup brought a knife from kitchen and assaulted Sagar, police alleged.
When his wife tried to intervene, he allegedly stabbed her multiple times.
Both were taken to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, where Divya succumbed to her injuries.
The condition of Sagar is stable, doctors said.
He worked as a food delivery boy and was a member of right wing Hindu outfit Bajrang Dal.
Divya and the accused’s wife were sisters and had married the two brothers around 10 years ago.
A local court on Wednesday remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.
