PATIALA: District revenue officials in Ropar are ready to withdraw compensation between farmers who face their loss of corn plants after pest attacks.
The farmers in the district have protested more than four months against the Government of Congress in the country at their request to get adequate compensation for loss of plants.
Revenue officials claim that the process of collecting full details of farmer bank accounts are ongoing and immediately compensation will be disbursed into their account.
However, this has made the rivals and their candidates, who have called the current compensation disbursement as an action to captivate voters.
Roupar District Revenue Officer (DRO) Gurjinder Singh revealed that the total funds of RS 3.42 Crores have been received to be disbursed among farmers as compensation for losing their plants.
Revenue officials have found a total of 6,096 hectares of land where corn plants are affected due to pest attacks.
Corn plants are influenced in a total of 5,711 hectares in the villages under the Division of Anandpur Sahib who receives Rs 3.17 Crores as a total compensation, whereas, the Nangal Division received Rs 17.44 Lakh as a total compensation for loss of plants in 323 hectares, the Ropar division received RS 6 , 85 lakh to lose plants in 58 hectares and the Chamkaur Sahib division received RS 28000 for losses recorded only in two hectares of land, according to income officials.
HR Anandpur Sahib Keshav Goyal, said, “The funds are accepted from the state government before the imposition of the code of ethics and the same thing has been transferred to the Tehsildar concerned for further disbursement to beneficiaries.
However, we have been seeking legal opinions from high-ranking officials that if Compensation can be disbursed during the model behavior code “.
Manjit Singh, Tehsildar of Anadpur Sahib said, “We collect details of all beneficiaries and will immediately withdraw compensation into their account”.
The farmer union is divided into views on the compensation provided can attract agricultural voters but say the affected farmers must be given appropriate compensation.
Secretary General BKU-Ugrahan Sukhdev Singh Pokikalan said, “No doubt the government, in an effort to seduce voters, delaying compensation for plant damage so that compensation can reach farmers near the election.” Veer Singh, Kirti leader Morcha said, “Farmers will not be captivated or impressed by the government because we have to protest for a long time on the road to get compensation.”
