Punjab sustains drug seizures as EC tightens the screw in polls

New Delhi: Election Commission (EC) has won drugs worth almost Rs 75 Crore from Punjab in assembly elections to assembly.
EC Source said drugs worth RS 74.64 Crore were confiscated based on the process of monitoring expenditure in punjab until Thursday, followed by Manipur (RS 65.54 Crore), Uttar Pradesh (RS 25.54 Crore), Uttarakhand (0.98 Crore) and Goa (0.98 crore).
The polls authority has made a seizure worth RS 240 Crore from five Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand polls, Manipur and Goa in the form of cash, liquor, medicine, valuables.
The Commission also held a meeting with the Chairperson of the Direct Tax Council and the Indirect Tax Center and Customs Board and Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau to tighten the process of monitoring polls in polls.
“Apart from the characteristics of the seizures mentioned above, the commission of the visit of the Galvanized Enforcement Authority as institutions seized drugs worth Rs 109 Crores in Punjab and more than 8 Laker liquor in Uttar Pradesh, in the election process,” said a source.
Uttar Pradesh has brought liquor seizures because the polls authorities have won alcohol worth 15.99 crore followed by Punjab (RS.
7.43 Crore), Goa (RS 2.26 Crore), Uttarakhand (Rs 1.54 Crore) and Manipur (RS 29 lakh).
The polls authorities have confiscated RS 18.86 Crore in cash from Uttar Pradesh, followed by Punjab (RS 16.73 Crore), Uttarakhand (RS 2.23 Crore), Manipur (Rs 50 Lakh) and Goa (Rs 10 Lakh).
The Commission also seizes free worth Rs 91 Lakh and precious metals worth RS 3.35 Crore from these countries.
EC has mobilized 228 expenditure observers for effective monitoring to curb money in five polls.
In addition, the Commission also held a meeting with government officers Haryana above to curb the possibility of entry of liquor from the state to Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh.
EC has directed the Head of the Chief’s Secretary, Director General of Police and the Main Secretary (Excise & Tax) Haryana to ensure strict alertness and examine the country’s borders so that there is no liquor movement that occurs in poll countries.
